At FPC, the Special Friends Sunday School class lives up to its name and claims to be one of the happiest places at FPC! Each member of the class has different kinds of gifts and abilities as well as disabilities, and many members serve the church: Jamie ushers, Caroline greets, Douglass “directs music” from the balcony, and Rebecca prays.
Teachers like Buddy and Linda Bartling, Jan Hyde, Jim Prince, Debbie Goelz, and Betsy Chestnut are quick to point out that the students in the Special Friends class often bless the teachers with solid Christian teaching of their own. Betsy Chestnut asked Rebecca Bratley about an upcoming handbell performance: “‘Rebecca, who are the Mustard Seed Bells playing for tonight?’ (meaning which church they were going to). She quickly looked at me and said ‘we are playing for The Lord!’”
This class loves new members and is designed for people from teenagers through adults. In addition to Sunday School time, the class has a couple of fellowships each year and many members volunteer for VBS and other church functions.
