Care and Support

Pastoral Care is about remembering…remembering God’s power, His promises, and His faithfulness during times of trial and affliction.

John Calvin wrote that “the greatest need which a man ever has of the spiritual doctrine of our Lord is when His hand visits him with afflictions, whether of disease or other evils, and specially at the hour of death…” Our pastoral care ministry involves visiting and praying with the sick and those who are home bound. We also conduct Bible studies at several retirement homes. Our congregational care ministry specifically works to encourage the congregation in caring for one other.

The Orchard, third Monday each month at 3 p.m.

St. Catherine’s Village, first Thursday of each month at 4 p.m.

If you are struggling with alcohol or other chemical dependence and would like to get together with people who share in the same struggles, we have a small and very safe group that meets regularly for just that purpose. This discreet monthly meeting is one of friendship, encouragement, and biblical reflection. Personal anonymity is very important at this meeting. For more information, please call or text 601-260-1636.

Also, every month a group meets of those who have family members (spouses, children, siblings, parents) who struggle with addiction. This is a time of mutual encouragement and Christ-centered counsel. Anonymity is required. For more information concerning the place and time of these meetings call or text 601-260-0388.

GriefShare is a ministry of support and encouragement for those grieving the death of a loved one. Using the Bible and the shared experience of others, participants will discover how to navigate the profound difficulties of bereavement. For more information about our next GriefShare group, please contact Emily Eastman at 769-572-3535 or emilye@fpcjackson.org

The purpose of our Caregivers’ Ministry is to gather similarly situated caregivers who desire to learn, share stories, and grieve as we walk together through the valley of a loved one’s suffering with dementia and dementia-related illness.

The meeting provides a safe and friendly forum to talk with others who understand the toils of caregiving for the cognitively impaired. There is something strangely therapeutic in hearing the hard stories of events others have lived through. We provide resources which are available to the caregiver as well as to the loved one for whom care is being provided.

Ultimately, we’ll leave each participant with the promise of the gospel and the hope and rest we find in Christ Jesus our Savior.

Second Corinthians 1:3-4 will serve as our foundation verse for these meetings: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Join us on second Mondays in Westminster Hall 202B from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. For more information, please contact Ken Fairly at 601-941-5004.
