Accessibility

The writer of the book of Hebrews exhorts believers to “…consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (10:24-25).

It’s incumbent upon us at First Presbyterian Church, then, to make sure that all God’s people, including those of differing physical and mental abilities, have the opportunity to gather with the rest of the church in worship and mutual discipleship, “encouraging one another.”

Special Needs Ministry

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Psalm 139: 13-14

First Presbyterian Church warmly welcomes infants, children, youth, adults and families who are touched by disability. It is our desire to make the good news of Jesus Christ accessible and precious to all. We look forward to growing in the Lord and serving together in the body of Christ, using gifts that God has given to all His children.

Mobility

Wheelchair Accessibility and Ramp – On the south side of our facility, bordered by Pinehurst Street, there is a wheelchair ramp into our building at the main floor level. On our building’s north side, bordered by Belhaven Street, all sidewalks and crossings have been made wheelchair accessible.

Elevators – Elevators in Westminster Hall and in the Study Center are available, making all floors of those buildings accessible to those with mobility issues. An elevator in our main building makes our lower floor, containing our nurseries and toddler childcare, accessible, as well.

Handicap Accessible Restrooms – Restrooms in the Greeting Courtyard, on the immediate south side of our sanctuary, and in Westminster Hall and the Study Center, have all been re-modelled and made handicap accessible.

Wheelchairs – Our entire main floor is wheelchair navigable, and, as mentioned above, elevators make all classes and fellowship opportunities offered on upper and lower floors accessible, as well.

General Assistance – Our church staff, officers, and ushers are ready and willing to help as needed.
