SUMMARY:Serve Week 2025
DESCRIPTION:Serve Day is back\, and it’s better than ever! We’ve expanded this beloved program to Serve Week\, a week-long initiative connecting our church members with local ministry partners. We want to help you get hands-on experience with our partner ministries during this week. And it is our prayer that we would be able to begin relationships between our members and these local organizations that extend beyond serve week — to all year long! Serve Week is designed with our church’s mission in mind: to make “disciples in our neighborhood\, our communities\, and the world.” \nServe Week \nCheck out the opportunities (below) to minister to our community through our partner ministries with FPC teams during Serve Week (Mon.-Thurs.). We  hope you’ll try out one of these opportunities and consider how you might make serving a part of your regular routine. \nServe Saturday \nEveryone is invited to join us on Serve Saturday. This year\, the day is specially designed to attend to the physical needs of our core ministries\, FPC\, FPDS\, and Twin Lakes\, along with those of the Old Canton Corridor Church plant (now named Sojourner Church). This event is great for the whole family to come and serve our church family. \nWe can’t wait to see you at Serve Saturday and MTJ Sunday. \nIf you are unsure of where to serve this Saturday\, we invite you to come down to Twin Lakes where we need all of the extra help we can get! \nDetails on where to begin Serve Saturday: \nTwin Lakes projects | Meet at Twin Lakes’ Milner Lodge\n7:30 a.m. – simple breakfast available |8 a.m. – kickoff talk begins \nFPC\, FPDS\, and Sojourner Church projects | Meet at Baird Gym\n7:30 a.m. – simple breakfast available | 8 a.m. – kickoff talk begins \n  \n

SUMMARY:Loving the Local Church: A Place to Belong
DESCRIPTION:Loving the Local Church: A Place to Belong\nTuesday October 14\, 2025 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. & 6-7:30 p.m.\nwith Megan Hill\nMiller Hall \nThe church has more beauty―and more value―than we can see with physical eyes. Though our congregations are made up of ordinary people engaged in predictable practices\, we are an outpost of heaven itself. The church is the people of God\, the dwelling place of the Spirit\, and the fullness of Christ. We ought to experience the local church in light of the Bible’s testimony ― as beloved\, brothers and sisters\, saints\, and gospel partners―loving and serving one another. Whether we are new Christians or mature believers\, learning to love the local church can become one of our greatest privileges and highest joys. The church is where we belong. \nJoin us at either of two sessions on October 14. Each session will have the same talk from Megan Hill\, so choose the one that works best for your schedule. Register online to help us plan for the meal! \nMegan Hill is the author of seven books: Sighing on Sunday: 40 Meditations for When Church Hurts (P&R\, 2024)\, Meg Is Not Alone (Crossway\, 2022)\, Patience: Waiting with Hope (P&R\, 2021)\, Partners in the Gospel: 50 Meditations for Pastors’ and Elders’ Wives (P&R\, 2021)\, A Place to Belong: Learning to Love the Local Church (Crossway\, 2020)\, Contentment: Seeing God’s Goodness (P&R\, 2018)\, and Praying Together: The Priority and Privilege of Prayer in Our Homes\, Communities\, and Churches (Crossway/TGC\, 2016). She is the managing editor for The Gospel Coalition\, and her writing has also appeared in The Washington Post\, Christianity Today\, Tabletalk\, Focus on the Family\, Desiring God\, and Reformation 21. A pastor’s wife and pastor’s daughter\, she lives in Massachusetts with her husband and four children where they belong to West Springfield Covenant Community Church (PCA).

SUMMARY:John Reed Miller Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 15\, FPC is honored to host the annual John Reed Miller Lecture series in partnership with our friends at RTS. We will pause our normal Midweek Electives and D Groups for adults to hear from Dr. Jordan Stone n Romans 8:28–30: “All Things for Good”. Jordan and his wife\, Emily\, are the parents of six children. Dr. Stone serves as Senior Pastor of Redeemer PCA in McKinney\, TX\, and Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary\, Dallas. He is the author\, most recently\, of A Holy Minister: The Life and Spiritual Legacy of Robert Murray M’Cheyne. \nThe John Reed Miller Lectures are named after Dr. Miller\, beloved pastor here at FPC (1952-1968) who started the winter lectures on Reformed Theology that eventually grew into Reformed Theological Seminary. Dr. Miller was an outstanding preacher and leader. In his latter years\, after retirement\, he would meet with RTS students weekly for lunches and dinners and talk theology and ministry with them. He was a fount of knowledge\, experience\, history and encouragement. He would offer the gift of John Owen’s Commentary on Hebrews\, if the student would agree to read the seven volume set! The John Reed Miller Lectures are given each year in his honor and to promote the biblical theology and practice of Reformed Preaching and Pastoral Ministry that he embodied in his own life and work.
